If you or someone you know is looking to become certified to work as a Security Officer in the State of Illinois, Waubonsee Community College now offers the IL 20-Hour Basic Unarmed Security Officer PERC Training course.
This course, presented by Controlled F.O.R.C.E., meets the requirements to become certified as an unarmed security officer in the State of Illinois. The course walks you through the process of obtaining a PERC (Permanent Employee Registration Card) in order to be eligible to gain employment in the private security, loss prevention, and private protection fields.
Having a PERC card is also beneficial for anyone seeking temporary security jobs such as seasonal security work during the holidays, or professional security assignments during events such as the 2012 Chicago NATO Summit.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, “employment of security guards is expected to grow by 14 percent between 2008 and 2018, which is faster than the average for all occupations.” As private security firms increasingly perform protective services formerly handled by police officers, and provide more protection to facilities, demand for security guards continues to climb.
Whether you are looking for full-time employment or the supplemental income of a part-time second job, the security field offers a variety of rewarding positions, including: event security, residential patrol services, facility protection, hospital security, investigations, and armored car services.
Security clearance is required to receive a PERC card. You must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, pass a background check with fingerprint scanning, and pass the written exam.
