On a typical day on the job… …a casino security officer may have to engage an unruly patron and escort him or her out of a crowded area and place him or her into a position of restraint. …a juvenile staff member may have to engage a psychologically disturbed youth and place him or her into a position of restraint. …a corrections officer may have to break up a fight between two inmates and escort one to a safe area and place him or her into a position of restraint. …a patrol officer may have to intervene in a domestic disturbance and escort an irate woman from the premises and place her into a position of restraint. …a soldier, while clearing a house, may have to engage in a full on fight and maintain control of his environment while subduing the combatant and escorting him to a contained area. These daily job duties, though occurring in different operating environments and being performed by different operators with different tools and use of force capabilities, all have one thing in common: the need for the operator to maintain control of his or her own body and actions while going hands-on in a non-compliant situation. |
