Police Agencies in San Juan County, NM Continue to Establish Force Response Training Standard
Farmington, NM San Juan Criminal Justice Training Authority (SJCJTA) in New Mexico hosted a Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Level 1 & 2 Instructor Certification course on October 13-16, 2008. The course, taught by Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Certified National Instructor Toby Flaget, was attended by SJCJTA Academy Instructors from New Mexico State Patrol, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and Farmington Police Department. A correctional officer from the San Juan County Adult Detention Center also attended to maintain his perishable skills and re-certify as an authorized departmental instructor.
By bringing these instructors from various agencies together to develop their Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Close Quarters Subject Control skills, the SJCJTA continues to establish a standard of training that will enable officers from different agencies to respond to threats with a common skills base and a common language. Even if officers have different backgrounds in other subject control programs and compliance tools, their knowledge of Controlled F.O.R.C.E. will allow them to communicate effectively and respond in a coordinated effort. When multiple agencies respond to a non-compliant operating environment, their ability to safely and decisively gain control of the situation is strengthened by their ability to work together as a team under stress. Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Level 1 & 2 Instructor Certification course is accredited for 32 hours in-service training by New Mexico Department of Public Safety, and is a U.S.N.S.T.A. Approved Program. For information on scheduling a course at your agency, call Liz Ladford at 630-365-1700. |
